Referee Development

Referee Coaches

PMTA has two accredited referee coaches - Greg Oaten (Talent) and Brad Walsh (Foundation).

We present referee courses from Level 1 to Level 3 and manage upgrades to level 2 locally.

Badge Upgrade Pathways

Level 3 upgrades are managed by the NSW Touch Level 3 Panel at state tournaments (State Cup, Junior State Cup, Country Championships and Vawdon Cup).  These require endorsement from the Northern Eagles Regional Referee Director on advice from the PMTA Referee Director.

Level 4 Upgrades involve 12 months of assessment by the Level 4 Panel starting and finishing at successive State Cups.

Level 5 and Level 6 upgrades are managed by the National Panel at the annual National Touch League tournament in Coffs Harbour in March.  Endorsement from NSW Touch and a minimum 12 months at level 4/5 are mandatory prerequisites.

Referees - the 3rd team on the field

At Port Touch, we endeavour to allocate at least two referees per game to enable referees to improve their skills, practice interchanges and prepare for tournaments.  Of course, this also helps improve the standard of games for players, as well !!
